I Just Know It

Here’s what I know for sure – God NEVER commanded ANYONE to kill. People go into war and attack others for their own selfish and arrogant purposes. God NEVER took the life of a person to have an angel in heaven. God would NEVER require a mother to forsake her child in the name of religion. There is NOTHING you can do to take yourself out of the grace of God. “Blessed and highly favored” is like gravity it’s ALWAYS there for every person no matter what. The devil is a lie…but so is the idea of sin. Religion is a set of manmade rules, regulations, and practices designed to make people more pliable do what pious men want them to do. Now…this part is my opinion… I THINK God, Jesus, and Mohammed would be appalled at what has been done in their name. If all religion disappeared I THINK our world would be exponentially better off. I BELIEVE God is real and true. I believe that God is all good all the time. I BELIEVE that God loves me and you all the time, and has NEVER looked at us as sinners in need of confessions, repentance, or penance. They say in geometry that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. Though I’ve never been good at math I know this – the straightest, most direct path between me and God is a straight line. I have no need for a cleric or book to tell me what is plainly obvious…I am the crown jewel of God’s creation, deserving of all things good and so...
My Prayer for 2017

My Prayer for 2017

I pray that this New Year will be your best year ever. The New Year is largely a symbolic event that blows the breath of new possibilities into each of us. I hope that you will fill your lungs with dreams, adventure, marvel, light, and love. Love,  is both evasive and pervasive. I pray that the latter is true for you in this coming year. May you know success and the emotional rush of setting and accomplishing goals. I hope this is your year! Please may this be the year when saying “Black Lives Matter” provokes empathy and not controversy. And may those who believe “Black Lives Matter” accept that “Blue Lives” matter too…just as much. Let this be the year that we take long deliberate steps toward each other and not away. To be color blind is to deny much of the richness of God’s creation. May this be the year we not only accept but celebrate our diversity. The rainbow of our color and culture have been masterfully painted across our globe; I hope we can step back and enjoy the picture. I pray that 2017 will have numbers far better than these horrible statistics of 2016: 4,362 people were shot in Chicago for an average of 83 per week 957 Americans have been shot and killed by the police, many were unarmed 0 police officers have been convicted of murder or manslaughter 2.5 times is how much more likely you are to be shot and killed by the police if you are black EQUALLY IMPORTANT – 64 police officers were killed in the line of...
President Trump – Where Do We Go From Here

President Trump – Where Do We Go From Here

Where Do We Go From Here?   This past November the 8th , millions of Americans went to their polling locations, some waiting for several hours, to cast their vote for our next President. Most of the prognosticators and pundits where all but certain that they knew the outcome of this election. Armed with their fancy surveys and data collection, they were collectively handed their ass. In an Electoral College landslide Donald Trump gave proof positive that the experts knew nothing, as he handily became President Elect over the hands down favorite Hillary Clinton. In the interest of full disclosure I was a supporter of Hillary Clinton. I knew her flaws, but I believed that only she had the necessary political ability, intellectual depth, and knowledge of the job to be an effective President. With that said my objective with this article is not to be a sore loser and cast shade on Mr. Trump. What I want to do is bring some understanding to the exceptionally divisive and in many cases hurtful outcome of this 2016 Presidential election. During this election we have perfected the dark art of partisanship. We had two nominees who embodied the disparate factions of our country. In the blue corner there was Hillary Clinton. She has been in politics and/or public life for around 30 years. During those years she has gained a well-earned reputation for telling half-truths and lies. Most of America thinks she is untrustworthy, and a lot of those people for their own reasons hate her. She was successfully cast as the ultimate insider who is corrupt and to whom...
Birth of a Nation

Birth of a Nation

OK…I just saw the film “Birth of a Nation”.  It tells the story of Nat Turner who led a revolt against the evil men who kept them and his people in bondage right here in America.  If you’re not familiar with his story it’s an important American story that all of us should be familiar with.  When I walked into the theater I noticed only one other person, an elderly white man.  I also noticed that at some point during the film he was gone, so I watched most of the film by myself.  Hmmmmm… Briefly, the story is about Nat Turner who was a literate slave (which was exceptionally unusual).  As Nat grew older he began preaching to other slaves, and got a bit of a reputation among a number of slave owners as being a great speaker.  In fact he was so good that other slave owners (it hurts to even say those words) began to hire him to speak to their slaves.  The intention was for Nat to basically lie to the slaves that all was good, and calm any thoughts they might have about a rebellion.  Eventually Nat changed from being a lying surrogate for the slave owners to being a truth teller to the slaves. I won’t give any more of the story away. What always sticks with me when I see a movie about slavery is a couple of things.  One is the depth of how wicked and inhumane the institution of slavery was.  The other thing that hits me is the magnificence of those people who endured being stolen away from their...
I Believe

I Believe

I believe… Each and every one of us is Here For Something Great,  and the pursuit of that greatness is why we are here. Our individuality was not a mistake.  We were never meant to sing the same song, walk in the same direction, or think the same thoughts.  Our diversity and collective wisdom is the blessed offspring of our uniqueness. Truth is true, until it is challenged and proven to be untrue.  Claims by zealous believers of so-called truth, is often just a belief or opinion held by a group of same-minded people.  Actual, undeniable, irrefutable truth is rare, but it does exist. We are more alike than we are different.  Political party, tribe, religion, ethnicity, nationality are all superficial divisions.  We have learned to compartmentalize in ways that are harmful to who and what we really are…blood relatives of one original man and woman. We know this to be the case, but conduct ourselves as if it weren’t.  This denial and resistance of actual truth is perhaps our greatest downfall. The truth is solid, deeply rooted, reliable, and unmovable.  We cannot break the truth, we can only accept it or break ourselves against it.  The truth is, we are one family.  Death, destruction, and all manner of unspeakable suffering is the predictable manifestation of the foolishness of denying the truth of our oneness. There is an energy or presence of power, intelligence, and unlimited possibility that is all around us, all the time.  There is a connection between the most majestic mountains, the Northern Lights, a Siberian tiger, a fire ant, and you.  The brilliance of music,...
